If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with music. Well, it just so happens (coincidentally, I swear!) that a lot of my bands are veg*an. I don't like them because of this, in fact I wasn't even aware of many until recently looking at PETA2's website. But here are a few that you should check out.
The Weakerthans: Obviously, they have to be NUMBER ONE on my list. Because they're my favorite band of all time. Okay, I'm not sure if they're veg*an (at least John K. Samson is), but if they're not, they should be. They're at least political, and heavily involved in that.
Propagandhi: The band John K. Samson started with, they are all vegan. Their songs are very punk and all of a political nature (just look at their name!). Some songs are about meat consumption ("The Purina Hall of Fame"), some are against capitalism, some are just revolutionary in general. Check them out.
The (International) Noise Conspiracy: Swedish and very political (um, again, look at their name). Unlike Propagandhi, it doesn't come across in all their songs (and not as startling, in my opinion), but more often than not it's there.
Rise Against: Punk, political (are we sensing a pattern here?). For a long time, I thought I was alone in the world knowing about them, and then I met a whole bunch of people at work (who also happen to be punk, but not veg*an unfortunately for them). And then I moved to Chicago, where they're from!
Phantom Planet: To break the political punk mold, here's a mellow-ish pop band. You know, the band that did the theme song to The O.C.. Jason Schwartzman (who has since left the band to focus on his acting career) is a vegan, along with Alex Greenwald.
Silverchair: Daniel Johns (lead singer/guitarist) has been vegan for many, many years. They're a rock band. They're not too political in their music, but moreso in their lives. Check out "Spawn Again".
