Well, those are the brief facts. I'm a small town girl from Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Then I moved to an even smaller town of Shutesbury, MA. Then I moved to Chicago, Illinois, which is definitely not a small town! Considering my pattern, I should have moved to one of those one street villages in Vermont. Oh well! If you ask me why I moved to Chicago, I'll tell you a somewhat sad, incredibly amusing story about my friends bailing out on me. That's part of the truth. But why we were all going to move to Chicago in the first place? The music scene. Honestly. And Chicago has decent vegan options. New York was considered, but decided to be too expensive. London was also considered, but equally expensive plus there's that whole thing with obtaining work visas... so Chicago it was!
I have a Bachelor's of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts. Yes, ZooMass. I'm not a party girl, but I did a pretty good job of pretending that I was for about a year while I was there! And yes, I graduated late. I was supposed to graduate May of 2006 and didn't graduate until September of 2007. I took a semester off, I transferred and lost credits, and I had mental breakdowns. And I had the bright idea to take Polish my first semester at UMass. Uh, don't do that.
I live with two cats, Avocado and Ginny. I love them more than anything else in Chicago. I adopted them from a shelter back in MA; Avocado had been abused and Ginny had been abandoned. Despite that, they're not hesitant to show their affection. Ginny frequently wins strangers over by her loveableness (not a word, I don't care). Also, you'll occasionally hear mention of Jewel. She's also my cat, but she doesn't live with me anymore. She lives with my mom, for a number of reasons. First, she's getting old. Second, she doesn't like other cats. Third, she has really bad asthma and it gets worse when she's upset. Moving her around as frequently as I move would definitely upset her! So she stays with my mom and is happy as the only animal there.
I like a lot of music. For the most part, I listen to a lot of punk, with the occasional indie thrown in there. But I'm not a stranger to folk or 60s music. And I'll listen to pretty much anything if it's political.
I also read a lot. I'd like to say that I read a lot about political subjects and especially animal rights... but I don't, not really. My love is science fiction and fantasy. That's also what I write. I also love modern poetry, which usually (but not always) is political. A lot of the poets were socialists/Marxists. I've always hated poetry, but modern poetry is so unlike other forms of poetry, and I love it (reversely, most other people hate it and like other forms). I might go to grad school to become a professor of modern poetry. We'll see.
I have a lot of hopes and dreams of the future... my biggest dream (aside from being a renowned author) is to own lots of land where rescued animals can live in peace. I'm talking sheep, cows, pigs, chickens from factory farms; abused horses from the racetracks; feral and abandoned dogs and cats. Obviously, I'll need to be a renowned author to afford all this!
I also tend to ramble on a lot. Oops.
